Siobhan Stewart – Senior Operations Manager

Hi! I’m Siobhan, and I’m the Senior Operations Manager for Student Roost in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh. I manage all four Student Roost properties in Edinburgh, including the newest building, Brewer’s Court, along with 24 team members who make it their mission to give our residents the best student living experience.

Edinburgh is my home, and I just love the city! It’s full of culture and beautiful scenery. As well as being a tourist destination, the people are friendly and welcoming and I always feel happy here; whether that’s taking a stroll through the city or taking a day trip to the beach.

I joined Student Roost in March 2021 after seeing the job advert for an Operations Manager for a new student accommodation in the heart of Edinburgh. As soon as I read the job and person specification, I knew I wanted to be a part of an innovative company which puts its values at the forefront. I was looking to take the next step in my career development, as I have experience in sales, customer service and retail management, I thought this would be a good role to step into and learn new skills while developing my existing ones.

The thing I love most about my role is that no two days are ever the same, and I learn something new every day! My teams work so well together and work closely to achieve goals and exceed sales, but I am here as extra support to motivate, communicate, and provide them with the tools they need to give our residents the best experience.

For me, working at Student Roost has shown me that each Operations Manager is appreciated and respected for their management style. The feedback we receive from residents, parents, guardians, and team members is listened to and taken into consideration to ensure the business is going in the right direction, where we can improve, and how we can grow.

I feel like I can be myself when I come to work and that I am treated as an individual, which helps me to build my confidence in my role. I feel empowered and supported to make decisions I feel are necessary to create a motivational working atmosphere, help the business to develop and create a homely atmosphere for our residents.

If you’re ready for a challenge, want to learn new skills, and work in a fast-paced environment, then this is the company for you. If you have a background in management and achieving targets with the support of your team, then an Operations role at Student Roost is the role for you.

Before you apply, learn all you can about the student accommodation sector and Student Roost’s history. Think about your personal achievements and how you motivate and influence others in your day-to-day life, and how this can be applied to the role.

Most importantly, be yourself! At Student Roost, one of our core values is You, Do You. We want you to bring yourself to work. Don’t change who you are.

Good luck!
